Gettysburg National Military Park invites photographer, William Bretzger, as the NEW park Artist-in-Residence

Invitation Poster to Gettysburg Artist in Residence presentation

Gettysburg Artist in residence illuminates monuments with images of the past.

As the National Park Service strives to connect with new generations, we look forward to leading the arts and interpretation… while always remembering our mission of preserving history.”

— NPS Superintendent, Ed Clark

WASHINGTON DC, MARYLAND, UNITED STATES, May 31, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — Gettysburg National Military Park, the non-profit National Parks Arts Foundation (NPAF), and the Gettysburg Foundation, are pleased to announce the residency of seasoned photographer William Bretzger as the Park’s artist-in-residence for June and July of this year. He will be among the artists this year to represent the Arts Revolver theme, which welcomes artists whose work combines the techniques and disciplines of several arts. Mr. Bretzger will reflect on his work and residency during an Artist Showcase Presentation at the David Wills House in downtown Gettysburg on Friday, July 7th at 5:00 p.m.. The event is free and open to the public.

Mr. Bretzger has worked as a staff photographer at The News Journal and at Delaware Online for the past 19 years, and has been visiting Gettysburg to photograph the Park and its environs for even longer. Mr. Bretzger began photographing Gettysburg on 35mm color transparencies, many of which he printed for exhibition in a traditional darkroom. He has since expanded his repertoire, shooting a great deal in black and white film for medium- and large-format development, as well as taking color images, often in digital form. Most recently, Mr. Bretzger put together a series based on images of Civil War era portraits of the battle’s participants projected onto the places on the battlefield where the soldier fell or won renown.

Mr. Bretzger is prepared to lecture on the many changes in photography and photographic technique he has seen over his my career, one which began with home processing black and white film and printing for local
publications and then quickly shifted when confronted with the digital revolution. He will also speak to the artistic
demands of avoiding clichéd moments, of trying to find the story and soul of a shot when taking photographs at so well known a park as Gettysburg. He writes, “Gettysburg, more than 150 years after the terrible battle there, continues to bear witness to the scourge of war. It is easy for a visitor to forget as they walk or drive along its tranquil scenes that it was more than a “great battlefield” but a place of great suffering and great deeds of significant historical impact. I intend my photographs to contribute to a deeper understanding of the events that occurred on the battlefield.”

Programs like Gettysburg National Military Park’s artist-in-residence series, in which acclaimed artists find inspiration from the beauty and history of our national parks, and agree to share their ideas with park patrons, represent some of the highest aspirations of the National Park Service. As the park’s superintendent, Ed Clark, explains, “Gettysburg National Military Park can offer the perfect backdrop to provide inspiration for the arts. As the National Park Service strives to connect with new generations, we look forward to leading the arts and interpretation of Gettysburg into the future, while always remembering our mission of preserving history.”

To that end, The staff and rangers of Gettysburg National Military Park hope to welcome you to Mr. Bretzger’s presentation, one which will address the technical demands of both film and digital photography, as well as his unique vision of Gettysburg Park.

Gettysburg National Military Park is a unit of the National Park Service that preserves, protects and interprets for this and future generations the resources associated with the Battle of Gettysburg during the American Civil War, the Soldiers’ National Cemetery, and their commemorations.

This year is the FIRST YEAR we have introduced program themes to the Artist in Residence programs, in order to diversify the interconnection of the arts with broader demographic inclusion. These programmatic themes will alternate through 2017 & 2018 :

Arts Revolver: The months of these AiRs are open to any and all artistic media including cross-overs or hybrids with any of the other programmatic themes represented in the other months of Gettysburg Artist Residencies. This is for all artists in all artistic media.

ALEMBIC ARTS (New Media) – this includes many varied and mixed arts media: virtual reality, film, photography, augmented reality, computer imaging, and any and all combinations of these in themselves, or in combination with classic art media.

LiterAudiArts: NPAF’s most fascinating theme focuses on many and all aspects of speech: words, sounds, song, and music. A few examples of this are POETRY, screenplays, spoken word, environmental recordings, sound art, wall of sound experimentation.

U.S. Military Veterans Artists in Residence: During January, July and November 2017, Gettysburg’s Artists in Residence bring U.S. Veterans to Gettysburg NMP for a unique and historical perspective of those who serve our country.

The National Parks Arts Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to the promotion of the National Parks of the U.S. by creating dynamic opportunities for artworks that are based in our natural and historic heritage. This project is supported by the Gettysburg Foundation and other generous benefactors. NPAF National Park projects are supported entirely by donation and generous partnerships.

All NPAF programs are made possible through the philanthropic support of donors ranging from corporate sponsors and small businesses, to art patrons and citizens- lovers of the parks. NPAF is always seeking new partners and donors for its wide-ranging philanthropic programs.

Howe obtains perfect Vantage Scores at Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion

SubscriberWise founder and USA credit magnate Howe expands and corrects oversimplified content for the benefit of the credit consuming public

Scoring is all about predictive analytics derived from math and science. It’s nothing to do with conspiracy except when those who don’t understand the technology attempt to explain it.”

— SubscriberWise founder and FICO Supreme Master David Howe

MIAMI, FL, USA, June 1, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — SubscriberWise, the largest issuing CRA for the communications industry and the nation’s leading advocate for children victimized by identity fraud, announced today critical insight, including clarification and correction involving recently published national news stories, from company founder and global master-champion all-time worldwide highest FICO and Vantage Score achiever David E. Howe.

The analysis and insight from the FICO Certified Pro and U.S. Credit Czar follows two national stories involving explicit credit misinformation reported by NBC News and Bloomberg.

According to Liz Weston, author of Your Credit Score, "there is no advantage to carrying a balance over to the next month."

Regrettably, similar information was presented in an NBC News story a few days later, with the following specific misinformation: "More than two in five (41 percent) mistakenly believed that carrying a small balance on a credit card month to month could help improve a person's credit scores" (http://www.nbcnews.com/business/consumer/many-americans-are-still-totally-confused-about-credit-scores-n764121).

Sports Psychology Expert Dr. Benjamin An to be Featured on CUTV News Radio

[As athletes], we envision a result rather than remaining present within our movements. That’s why my book is ultimately about concentration.”

— Dr. Benjamin An

ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN, UNITED STATES, June 1, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — It’s match point. The crowd is silent. If you win this point, you win the tournament. Lose and the momentum could turn in your opponent’s favor. What happens next depends entirely on the intensity of your concentration.

Dr. Benjamin An is the author of The Concentration Mechanism of Tennis, Golf, Baseball, Soccer and Skiing. His book explores the mental and physical connection in sports to concentrate on the right action at the right time through present mindfulness.

Dr. An did not touch a tennis racquet until he was 40 years old. Now 86, he remains one of the leading thinkers in the field of sports psychology.

“Whenever I learn something new I like to learn exactly what I’m doing,” explains Dr. An. “It’s much more important to me is to know what the game demands mentally as well as physically.”

According to Dr. An, hitting and throwing are the primary tools for human survival; in the modern, civilized world, these survival skills were translated into sports actions and the structure and nature of these actions define the sport we’re playing. Dr. An has sought to explore these actions to help athletes improve their performance.

“The eye is the leader of the athletic action. The action is blind. The eye leads the action,” explains Dr. An. “Through practice it becomes intuitive. The action takes over for the eye. From this understanding, we can help any player in any sport.”

Human physical actions are complicated by human mental thoughts and intellectual understandings. The most profound of these complications, or interferences, is our ability to visualize the results of our actions. Dr. An believes this intellectual ability slows down the processes we need to align our mind and our body to execute our actions properly.

“In sports, we tend to think more in terms of result than execution,” says Dr. An. “It is very hard for a person to concentrate solely on his actions; we envision a result rather than remaining present within our movements. That’s why my book is ultimately about concentration. We have to be mindful of these interferences.”

Dr. An’s book can help athletes develop their kinesthetic sense to improve their efficiency of movement. Even Roger Federer can benefit from some of the lessons shared in The Concentration Mechanism.

“You cannot predict the actions, you can only prepare for them,” says Dr. An. “If you understand these actions you can be the best coach in any sport.”

CUTV News Radio will feature Dr. Benjamin An in an interview with Jim Masters on June 2nd at 12pm EDT and with Doug Llewelyn on June 9th at 12pm EDT.

Listen to the show on BlogTalkRadio.

A small North Carolina charity is gaining attention for its free programs designed to build self-esteem and empower medically fragile, special needs, and…

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NORTH CAROLINA, USA, June 1, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — A small North Carolina charity is gaining global attention for its free programs designed to build self-esteem and empower medically fragile, special needs, and disadvantaged children. Featured in dozens of media including American Way Magazine and TEDx Talks, Indo Jax Surf Charities will be the subject of a one-hour special on the Oprah Winfrey Network in August 2017.

Indo Jax Surf Charities uses the ocean as a classroom and surfing as a learning tool. “We believe the ocean has unique healing properties with an ever-changing, unpredictable environment,” said founder, Jack Viorel. “Getting into the ocean and learning to surf, especially special needs children, is a life-long lesson about stepping out of your comfort zone, into unpredictability, and removing limitations. Everything in life has a bit of fear. We teach the kids that it’s okay to be afraid.”

“Our programs build higher self-confidence and teach a system children can apply to any situation or hurdle in the future,” said Viorel. “They leave with a formula to be more successful, conquer more challenges, and the ability to deal with fear.”

“I encourage anybody thinking about it to go for it,” said Eric Stanley, parent of 11-year old Jaylen, who is unable to see and is courageously battling Juvenile Batten disease. “Jack and his team are great. They’re very patient and know how to work with kids. A parent does not have to worry – they are one-on-one with the children, working with them and watching all the time.”

With programs in North Carolina, California, Nicaragua and India, the Indo Jax schedule includes camps specifically formatted for autism, visual impairment, childhood cancer, cystic fibrosis, Boys and Girls Clubs, Children of Belarus, the Boys and Girls Home of Lake Waccamaw, inclusion camps, and special needs camps.

Indo Jax Surf Charities began when Jack Viorel was a first-grade teacher at Saint Mary’s Elementary in Wilmington, NC. “The school provided a program for kids born with AIDS,” said Viorel. “I thought about taking them surfing, believing this would be good for their self-esteem and physical issues. The program coordinator talked me into running three camps that summer.”

“Prior to surf camp, many of the children with AIDS had stopped taking their medication, knew they were dying, had skin issues, were ostracized, and had low self-esteem,” said Viorel. “By the end of the summer, I knew we were on to something big. The children started to open up, their skin issues improved, many of them went back on their medication, they wanted to surf again and be healthy enough to do it, and started talking about future plans.”

With this success, Viorel retired from his 20-year teaching career and has spent a decade honing and expanding his charity for special needs children.

In 2017, Indo Jax Surf Charities will serve and assist about 1,000 children, at no charge. “We take on the responsibility of raising the money,” said Viorel. “Most families with medically fragile, special needs, or at-risk children are struggling to make ends meet.”

The surf camp program is funded by contributions from individuals, businesses, foundations and corporate sponsors. “United Health Care has supported the program for three years, The Jordan Spieth Foundation came onboard last year, and this year Live Oak Bank joined the team,” said Viorel. “Blockade Runner Beach Resort has been a solid supporter.”

The Hero Effect, co-hosted by former Super Bowl Champion Donald Driver and actress/advocate Emily Wilson, will feature Indo Jax Surf Charities on the Oprah Winfrey Network on Saturday, August 12, at 10 AM. A premiere showing will be held in Wrightsville Beach on Thursday, August 10, at Blockade Runner Beach Resort. “They’ve donated the ballroom and we’re going to have a big showing,” said Viorel. “This is very exciting for us.”
