She further emphasized, “Our partnership with Merck Foundation aims at empowering infertile women in The Gambia and ensure that they access information, education and health services by collectively working with stakeholders, communities, traditional communicators, religious leader and healthcare workers. With the support of Merck Foundation, the government is adopting important policies to enhance access and regulate safe fertility treatment.”

Merck Foundation is making history in The Gambia, together with the Ministry of Health and the First Lady’s Foundation, we will train the first oncologist and fertility specialist in the country. According to the Ministry of Health data, The Gambia never had an oncologist or a Fertility Specialist, neither they had a cancer care facility or a fertility clinic in the country.

During the community program, many infertile women from the community have been acknowledged by both Merck Foundation and the FaBB for their courage to share their sad tales of their suffering from infertility stigma, and ostracism by the society and their families.

Applauding the courage of these infertile women, Dr. Rasha Kelej said, “Merck Foundation salutes these infertile women in The Gambia, who shared their stories of suffering and discrimination. H.E. Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow, the First Lady of The Gambia and myself, appreciate these strong women and encourage them to establish their own business and become independent. The Merck Foundation also commit to support The Gambia through providing their oncology fellowship program to establish their first training oncologists in the country, First Lady of The Gambia emphasized, “Merck foundation helps us to make history in The Gambia; we will have in the next two years our first oncologists and fertility specialists in the country. This will help improve access to Fertility and cancer care significantly as currently, we do not have both specialties, we do not even have cancer care facility in The Gambia.”

The Merck Foundation also maintains its commitment to building capacity and improving access to quality and equitable healthcare solutions with particular focus on cancer and fertility care in Africa.

So far, doctors from Uganda, Zambia, Ethiopia, Namibia, Tanzania, Ghana, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Botswana, Liberia, Rwanda, Kenya, Chad, Niger, Guinea, Gambia, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Nepal have benefitted from Merck Foundation training programs in fertility or oncology fellowships. ALLENTOWN, PA, UNITED STATES, February 27, 2018 / — The Lehigh Valley web design team at KDG and Muhlenberg College have broken records with #MULEMENTUM, Muhlenberg’s fifth annual higher ed crowdfunding campaign.

Muhlenberg College has been opening doors for students around the globe for over 150 years. On November 16, 2017, the vibrant campus community came together to help open even more. The school had 24 hours and a goal of 2,500 participants. Students, alumni, faculty, and friends could give a gift and help build opportunities for current and future Muhlenberg students.

“#MULEMENTUM is really a day to get people excited about Muhlenberg, get them invested in the College, and really drive up participation,” says Marissa Zondag, Associate Director Of Annual Giving at Muhlenberg College.

KDG’s higher ed web design team designed and developed a custom giving portal. It engaged participants with its gamified approach and simplified the giving process with its easy forms. Over 2,600 participants answered the call and donated using the custom crowdfunding site.

KDG helped turn giving into a game. Images of Muhlenberg’s many iconic red doors were shown to participants, who had to guess which campus buildings the doors belonged to. Participants with correct answers were awarded digital keys and every time a goal was a met an exclusive Muhlenberg video was unlocked.

“In every giving campaign, it is so important that the campus community come together,” says Kalyn Kates, UI/UX designer at KDG. “With Muhlenberg, this was simple to do. The faculty, staff, students, and alumni are all so close and supportive that they want to get involved and help.”

A mini donor competition between the different groups on campus, like alumni, students, and even parents, created a fun rivalry throughout the day. Alumni ultimately came out on top, leading in donations and referrals.

Plenty of on-campus events hosted by Muhlenberg’s advancement office also got people engaged. The school’s cheerleaders and mascot made appearances, #MULEMENTUM cupcakes were served in the dining hall, and students who donated on campus could spin a prize wheel for some Muhlenberg swag.

“KDG has been awesome through this whole process,” Zondag says of the higher ed web design team at KDG. “I really feel like we have a great partner in this initiative.”

Unless otherwise stated by the donor, the money raised during the campaign went toward The Muhlenberg Fund, which primarily assists students with financial aid and touches every aspect of the campus. ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, USA, February 26, 2018 / — A professional certification program announced recently for the consumer product safety field has generated comments from individuals across a variety of industries.

“Product safety professionals have a strong drive to serve their companies and consumers by reducing risks of serious injury from consumer products. This certification program is a step forward in recognizing the critical role we play,” said Shelia Gottschalk, President of the Society of Product Safety Professionals (SPSP) and Product Integrity Consultant for Hallmark Cards, Inc. “We’ve heard from people throughout the product safety field saying that it was time to recognize the product safety professional through a rigorous and balanced certification program.

“A certification program can lift the performance of individuals in the product safety field and encourage all of us to reach a higher level of effectiveness as professionals,” according to Larry Bell, Product Safety Director, North America for BSH Home Appliances, and Board member of SPSP.

“When we hire or promote product safety personnel at our company, we want to have as much assurance as possible that they can be a strong contributor to the success of our product safety system. The certification program, which will start on January 16, 2019, has been designed by the Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business at Saint Louis University, working in cooperation with Consumer Product Safety Certification Services (CPSCS), an independent standards organization affiliated with SPSP.

The program will focus on five areas of knowledge: 1. a proactive culture of product safety in a company, 2. risk assessment and human factors, 3. regulatory compliance and standards, with a focus on the U.S. marketplace, 4. Incident management and investigations, and 5. product recalls and market withdrawal.

“Through workshops and a series of webinars, we’ll help professionals focus on increasing and implementing their knowledge as product safety professionals,” according to Beth-Anne Yakubu, Executive Director of the Emerson Leadership Institute at the Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business which will administer the course in cooperation with ADK Information Services, LLC. “Passing an examination and creating a case study for presentation to a panel of academic and industry experts are requirements of the course. Candidates will show their competence by meeting these requirements.”

The program will accept registrations from August 1 – October 31, 2018.
To be eligible for the program and examination, individuals should have at least 10 years relevant product safety work experience, or 7 years or more of product safety work experience coupled with a university bachelor degree in a related field, or such other criteria as might be deemed adequate by CPSCS, which set the standards to be met for earning the designation of “Certified Consumer Product Safety Professional”

The Society of Product Safety Professionals (SPSP), a membership organization that promotes professional development for product safety personnel, helped develop the framework for the program and will provide the designation of “Certified Consumer Product Safety Professional” to those completing the university program requirements.
