Kristi Knight of Brain Fitness to be Featured on CUTV News Radio

FISHERS, INDIANA, UNITED STATES, May 31, 2018 / — The brain’s ability to learn from experience and environment is called Neuroplasticity. This process influences change in our thinking, emotions and behavior. Research has confirmed that our brains have neuroplasticity our entire life. When we’re able to train our brains and improve its self-regulating functions, it becomes a lot easier to address the physical, mental, and emotional concerns of daily life.

Kristi Knight is the founder of Brain Fitness, where she specializes in EEG Neurofeedback training, an advanced brain training technology.

“Neurofeedback training is a great tool to help facilitate the healing process,” says Knight. “It guides the brain to be more focused and relaxed, more flexible and resilient.”

According to Knight, it’s almost impossible to make conscious changes, especially under stress. Change is best achieved on the unconscious or subconscious level. Neurofeedback training works on areas in the brain that correspond to our stress response system and help us return to homeostasis.

“We live in a very stressful environment. Our lives are very different than the lives of people 100 years ago. Our stresses and our environment impact how we function on a daily basis,” says Knight. “Neurofeedback helps individuals achieve peak performance. When our central nervous system is settled down and not as stressed and anxious as it was before, people are able to find that next step.”

Knights says in 18 months, she’s seen much greater awareness of neurofeedback across a wide variety of physicians and mental health professionals looking for an alternative approach to managing health.

Knight has worked with children as young as four and adults as old as 94. In addition to neurofeedback, Knight also offers health and wellness coaching as well as holistic nutrition coaching, educating her clients on everything from nutrition and exercise to sleep hygiene.

“People who come to me are looking for help. They've tried everything and don't know what else to do or where else to turn,” says Knight. “So I’m really trying to arm myself with all the tools I need to empower people through these stages of change and what's important for optimal brain health and brain fitness. Every single person who walks through the door of our center is different. We can educate people and tailor a program that really supports them while they receive neurofeedback training.”

CUTV News Radio will feature Kristi Knight in an interview with Jim Masters on June 4th at 12pm EDT.

Employment Advice for Individuals With Autism

Dr. Stephen Shore shares his personal experiences and notes that employers are actively seeking autistic individuals.

Workshop attendees enjoying Dr. Shore’s humor and informative job tips.

A Workshop Presented Dr. Stephen Shore

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES, May 30, 2018 / — For an adult with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), finding employment can be extremely difficult, especially without the proper advocacy, training, and direction. Unfortunately, the autism unemployment rate has been reported as high as 85%. To help increase awareness and support, Shema Kolainu – Hear Our Voices hosted a successful workshop on Employment Strategy and Job Success for Individuals with ASD. The speaker, Dr. Stephen Shore, a member of Icare4Autism advisory committee and an assistant professor at Adelphi University, presented his personal experience with tips to finding secure and successful employment. The workshop was held on May 29, 2018 at Touro College in Manhattan and was attended by parents, therapists, and individuals with ASD.

One of the main insights from Dr. Shore’s presentation was the importance of finding employment based on the individual’s strength. This concept was emphasized throughout the presentation and he further explained that there are neurological and physiological reasons why individuals are better at particular subjects than others. Dr. Shore stressed that individuals with ASD should focus on identifying ways to develop their interests and enthusiasms, utilizing positive skills instead of remediating weaknesses. For example, if someone struggles with multitasking but is really good at something else, they should not put all of their energy into working on improving multitasking.

Identifying interests and non-interests at an early age is an important skill for development. This interest could potentially foreshadow what a child could do well in the future. Dr. Shore, who has ASD, indicated that as a teenager he loved repairing bicycles. He decided to approach the shop manager at the local bicycle shop and discussed his interest and passion in repairing bikes; ultimately he received a job offer to work at that store. Throughout college, he distributed flyers on campus soliciting business to fix bicycles. Although this wasn’t his career path, it gave him the ability to earn money and improve his skills based on his interest.

Dr. Shore, a charismatic and magnetic individual, who had open discussion throughout his presentation as he navigated through his key points. He discussed many tips and interview rules such as the interviewer always needs to sit first. He also expressed that, “relationships are everything when finding employment. Getting a person in power of hiring to like you is so important.” At the end of the workshop, Dr. Shore provided links to organizations that help individuals with ASD find employment and answered any remaining questions from the audience.

Download a free online resource for employment that Dr. Shore and his colleague Robert Naseef developed called Neurodiversity in the Workplace Curriculum.

Treating a Sinus Infection Naturally using Salt Therapy

SaltAir - Home Salt Therapy

Find more about sinus infections and how to properly prevent sinusitis using salt therapy at home.

LONDON, ON, CANADA, May 29, 2018 / — With the weather becoming warmer along with trees and flowers beginning to bloom, spring on the way. After a harsh winter, it’s definitely something to look forward to. During this transition into the warmer weather, allergies and colds also begin to occur often. Our weak immune systems after the winter make it easy for bacteria to attack the body. Lasting in a range from two weeks to a month, the body is under a lot of aggravation trying to fight off the infection. This can get stressful for us. Because of the uncomfortable symptoms along with the infections, it gets in the way of our regular activities.

Sinusitis, also known as sinus infection, is an inflammation in the sinuses. The sinuses are cavities that produce the mucus needed for the nasal passages to work adequately. When they are infected, it blocks the normal flow of nasal secretions, allowing bacteria to grow and worsen the infection. Symptoms of sinusitis vary from person to person, but some symptoms include a cough, sore throat, fever, and nasal congestion with thick secretions. Since the ears, throat, and nose are all associated, if one area is infected, the other areas will feel it too. This makes sinus infections one of the most irksome and unpleasant infections to deal with.

There are four different types of sinus infections: acute, subacute, chronic, and recurring. Acute sinusitis is the least catastrophic and usually goes away on its own without any medication. It’s commonly mistaken for a cold since the symptoms are very similar: stuffy nose, congestion, headaches, and fatigue. The symptoms usually only last seven to ten days. Subacute sinusitis is the same as acute, only lasting four to eight weeks. Taking medication is highly recommended to relieve the symptoms and make the patient as comfortable as possible. Chronic sinusitis is when the infection lasts longer than twelve weeks. This type of sinusitis also involves more severe symptoms like facial pain, headache pressure, and decreased sense of smell. More intense medications like saline rinses and intranasal steroids are involved as well. Recurring sinusitis is when a person has three or more cases of acute sinusitis. This type of sinusitis is usually caused by underlying allergies provoked by the changing of the weather. Antibiotics can be taken for this type and although it isn’t as severe as chronic sinusitis, it should be monitored so the condition doesn’t worsen.
While antibiotics help the infection, a natural treatment that has proven to help as well is salt therapy. Salt therapy is a non-invasive option that offers assistance in relieving sinus symptoms. Salt therapy will expose the respiratory system to microscopic salt particles by being inhaled. As the salt enters the airways, it will break up and loosen the mucus, aiding the body in getting rid of the congestion. Salt also has natural anti-inflammatory properties that will relieve the inflammation in the sinuses and reduce the symptoms as well. The salt particles have anti- bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties helping to fight these pathogens. To top it all off, salt therapy scales down the levels of IgE (immunoglobin E) in the blood. Since this antibody is responsible for allergic reactions, the reduced levels lower the risk of allergic reactions. Lower risk of allergies leads to lower the risk of potentially getting a future sinus infection. With a continuous treatment, optimal health will be reached. Salt therapy can easily be done at home using a salt machine and is cost effective as well. The salt particles are obtain from a saline solution using natural rock salt. The natural rock salt has natural occurring minerals in it, it is unprocessed and untreated chemically. It is recommended to be used during the night, while asleep and get 7-8 hours exposure every day. This is important for all chronic respiratory disease, because salt therapy has cumulative effects in time – the longer you use it, the greater benefits you have. There are no side effects and it is safe to be used in all ages.

Sinus infections shouldn’t be getting in the way of your routine and making you feel as if you can’t get out of bed. Try salt therapy today and let yourself feel unstoppable!

Open Invitation to Starbucks, Howard Schultz and other Corporations

Elizabeth Meaders Surrounded by Pieces from her Black History Collection

Chirlane McCray Reviewing a Portion of Elizabeth Meaders’collection

Elizabeth with an Authentic Protest Banner

A Grand Opportunity for Starbucks to fulfill its mission, leading America into Racial Healing — Through the Gateway of Black History, Conversation & Edu-action

"…there is no collection either institutionalized or owned privately that represents the totality
of the black experience in America as comprehensively as the Elizabeth Meaders Collection."”

— Randy Weinstein, Founder/Director, W.E.B. DuBois Center

STATEN ISLAND, NY, USA, May 29, 2018 / — We are thankful for the four hours 170,000 Starbucks employees took on Tuesday to learn how to avoid the kind of racial bias that many say led to the arrests of two African-American men for occupying a table without making a purchase.

A 4-hour training is an important gesture. A wonderful first step.

Rapper/actor, Common, said on GMA: "…what happened at Starbucks is just a microcosm of how African Americans have been dehumanized and I wanted to be a part of that conversation."

He went on to say, "The conversation today for me as a Black man is a step, but we want to see action…to figure out from these communities how you can really serve them."

What Common has eloquently stated is echoed by millions of people across the country.

Enter Elizabeth Meaders.

Elizabeth is a national treasure, creating what many have arguably proclaimed to be the most comprehensive African American history collection held in private hands.

Since the early 1960s Elizabeth has been acquiring specific documents and artifacts designed to represent and depict the historical drama surrounding: education, sports, civil rights, civil wrongs, religion, business, politics, military, arts and entertainment, and so much more.

Her collection serves as a remarkable resource filled with primary documents and artifacts, designed to tell the truth. Because healing — any type of healing — always starts with the truth. Incontrovertible truth.

What if a corporation giant like Starbucks were to acquire Elizabeth's collection?

Pieces from Elizabeth's collection can then be used to start truth-centric conversations designed to lead the participants to community action and involvement.

Starbucks can become an agent for change, lighting a candle against the dark history of racial injustice and misunderstanding.

Let's have a conversation. We are wide open to discuss creative and practical ways that make business sense. Elizabeth's collection can become the standard bearer for greater multicultural hope and success in America.
