PRESERVING HISTORY TEACHING CULTURE IN THE 21ST CENTURY

Mexican Children perform a Cultural Dance at their Annual Heritage Day in the Fort Harrison

Performance at the annual Grupo Folklorico Mahetzi Event in the Fort Harrison

A community that pulls together can make a better society for all.”

— L. Ron Hubbard

CLEARWATER, FL, US, December 27, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — The sound of the mariachi band and stomping heels filled the packed auditorium of the Fort Harrison, the Church of Scientology’s religious resort. Several hundred Latin-American guests clapped rhythmically to the music. They gazed at the young ladies dancing and tossing their long colorful skirts to and fro with the music. “Viva Mahetzi!” shouted a member of the crowd.

Large families –mothers and fathers with children— were mesmerized by the creative ethnic costumes.

Herman Guildo founded Grupo Folklorico Mahetzi in 2009 as a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Mexican culture in the United States. The word “Mahetzi” is from an ancient Mexican indigenous language and means “heaven.” The group teachesMexican children born in the United States the folk dances and the strong moral values native to Mexico.

On stage in the auditorium, Guildo expressed his thankfulness for the United States, “It has not been without struggles but this great country has never failed to open its arms to us.”

When he first started Mahetzi, it was just a small group of children, including four of his own. The group has grown to 37 young boys and girls now dancing on stage to celebrate the group’s eighth anniversary.

After the show, the mother of a young girl said that dancing with Mahetzi has helped her daughter grow in more ways than one. Before, “she was shy. Now she speaks with other people and she’s more social. She loves the music of her country and dancing. Before Mahetzi she never did.”

“This is my culture,” said another staff member of Mahetzi who’s been with the group for five years now. “I want more people to notice that we have a beautiful culture.”

THE FORT HARRISON:

Since its construction in 1927, the Fort Harrison has been the home to many charitable organizations. Its latest owner, the Church of Scientology, completed a top to bottom restoration of the Fort Harrison in 2009—and since then has hosted over 500 community events there, inspired by the words of Scientology founder, L. Ron Hubbard, “A community that pulls together can make a better society for all.”

Final Night of Winter Wonderland Makes 25 Years of Helping Others

Families and children participating in the activities available at the opening ceremony of Winter Wonderland

With the Clearwater Community Volunteers Center, we are able to provide a safe space for nonprofit organizations to meet and use at no cost”

— Clemence Chevrot, Director of the CCV Center

CLEARWATER, FL, US, December 27, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Clearwater Community Volunteers concluded the 25th year of Winter Wonderland, by distributing the donated food and toys to local charities serving low income families and children within Pinellas County. Volunteers had asked guests entering Winter Wonderland (December 1 – 22nd) to leave an unwrapped toy in Santa’s Sleigh so children could have a great holiday when they might not have otherwise.

“Winter Wonderland is also a food and toy drive for needy children in our community,” said Mrs. Pam Ryan-Anderson, Executive Director of the Clearwater Community Volunteers. “That the toys and food gathered here will make Christmas possible for those children is why we create Winter Wonderland every year.”

11,600 guests who toured the 2018 Winter Wonderland participated in the pony rides, human gyroscope, and telling Santa what they wanted for Christmas.

Guests also visited the new Clearwater Community Volunteers Center, located across the street from Winter Wonderland at the corner of Drew Street and Fort Harrison Avenue in downtown Clearwater.

The Church of Scientology & the Clearwater Community Volunteers opened the community center for nonprofit organizations in March so they could further extend their community outreach to those who seek to improve our community.

“With the Clearwater Community Volunteers Center, we are able to provide a safe space for nonprofit organizations to meet and use at no cost.” said Ms. Clemence Chevrot, Director of the Clearwater Community Volunteers Center. “Since March, we have worked with over 45 different nonprofits from across Tampa Bay to improve the lives of those around us.”

Rose Parade, Rose Bowl Employ New Technology To Protect Crowds From Vehicle Mitigation

Vehicle barriers at Rose Bowl Stadium

Security officials expand use of Archer 1200 barriers at stadium and key parade locations. Barriers stop vehicles yet maintain pedestrian and emergency access.

Of course, we are concerned about ensuring that pedestrians and vehicles are safely separated.”

— Pasadena Police Lieutenant Sean Dawkins

PASADENA, CA, US, December 27, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — With hundreds of thousands of spectators expected to attend the 2019 Tournament of Roses Parade and game, Pasadena Police and security executives are calling on the latest in vehicle mitigation technology to protect crowds.

For the first time, Pasadena Police are extending the use of Meridian Rapid Defense Group’s Archer 1200 portable vehicle barrier to key areas around the perimeter of the parade. The engineered steel barrier was successfully used last year at the main entrance of the Rose Bowl Stadium. Deployments this year have been expanded to multiple locations. They can be seen by the public at the Rose Bowl Stadium or the parade route at Colorado and Orange Grove Bridge.

Protecting attendees during the city’s highest profile event is a daunting task – one that is complicated by the mix of pedestrians and vehicles sharing access to many of the city’s streets.

“We will have more than 700,000 people lining the parade route and traveling on foot through the downtown area,” said Pasadena Police Lieutenant Sean Dawkins. “Of course, we are concerned about ensuring that pedestrians and vehicles are safely separated.”

The Archer 1200 barrier is a certified solution meeting both U.S. and European standards of protection. A particular benefit for an event like the parade festivities is that the barriers stop vehicles without impeding the free flow of pedestrian foot traffic.

“It is very important for us to strike a balance,” said Rose Bowl Stadium Chief Operating Officer George Cunningham. “Public safety is our number one priority. The Archer 1200 solution allows us to use state of the art protection and still have the ability to efficiently admit nearly 100,000 visitors into the stadium.”

With hostile vehicle attacks on the rise worldwide, municipal police and security operatives must develop comprehensive plans for any event drawing significant outdoor crowds. Often times, cities must resort to using ad hoc measures that are not tested for effectiveness. These include cement rails and plastic water barriers which are designed to keep cars on the freeway as well as public vehicles like trash trucks, fire engines, and squad cars. The latter poses a significant risk of equipment costs should an incident occur.

“Cities know there is a real need for protection,” said Peter Whitford, CEO of Pasadena-based Meridian Rapid Defense Group, the manufacturer of the Archer 1200. “We designed our product to address the real technology void in HVM (hostile vehicle mitigation). Beyond the first step which is certified performance, our barriers offer ease of deployment and flexibility. This allows law enforcement to place the barriers where needed and react to any change in threat level.”

The Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Stadium will be utilizing more than 65 barrier units across four high-access locations. This more than doubles the fleet used for the 2018 Rose Bowl Game. Placement of the barriers restricts non-authorized access but also allows for entry of emergency vehicles if required.

The Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl Game take place on January 1, 2019. For more information about Meridian Rapid Defense Group or the Archer 1200 Vehicle Barrier, visit www.betterbarriers.com.

Maintaining a healthy weight is an issue that confronts most Americans today. Dr. Matthew Bogard published an informational article that provides an overview.

Matthew Bogard, MD (N/A:N/A)

In case you are planning to start a more vigorous exercise program, then do consult a doctor, especially if you bear health concerns like shortness of breath, dizziness, chest pain or pressure …”

— Matthew Bogard, MD in Iowa & Nebraska

CHARITON, IOWA, UNITED STATES, December 27, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Trying to lose or gain weight via unhealthy practices is not uncommon. Both men and women alike will resort to meal skipping, fasting, and smoking to reduce appetite and consuming stimulants such as caffeine, prescription drugs and energy drinks to replace actual food. Other more damaging methods include taking diet pills, laxatives, diuretics or purging. Unhealthy dietary practices cause weight regain after a period of time. People who indulge in these will also show signs of depression or develop eating disorders. The newest overview provided by Matthew Bogard, MD is available on his blog at https://matthewbogardmd.blogspot.com/

Healthy weight gain or loss may be challenging and may take more time. But instead of following extreme diet plans for a few weeks, it is infinitely better to develop a lifestyle that automatically supports and helps you maintain a healthy weight advises Dr. Bogard.

Why is healthy weight important?

Maintaining a healthy weight is important because it helps prevent many diseases and conditions that may otherwise find their way into your life if you were overweight or underweight. Being overweight or obese puts you at a higher risk of developing serious health problems such as heart diseases, high blood pressure, type II diabetes, gallstones, breathing problems and even certain cancers.

Being underweight as well comes with its own set of problems. These include anemia, osteoporosis, decreased immune function, fertility issues and growth and development issues in children and teenagers. If you are underweight, then you are more like to suffer from complications from surgery as well.

Balancing Energy

The key to maintaining a healthy weight is balancing the amount of energy you consume and the amount you of energy you spend carrying out daily tasks. If your calorie intake is the same as the number of calories spent, then there is a balance of energy and your weight will stay the same.
If your calorie intake surpasses the amount of calories you spend, the result is weight gain. If the opposite happens, the result is weight loss.
Managing Healthy Weight Loss

Some key takeaways for managing a healthy weight loss include:
* Exercise. Indulging in physical activity on a regular basis will help burn the extra calories you consume. It also builds muscle, which is equally healthy. Walking instead of using the car or public transport wherever possible and cycling to work or school are great ways to increase your daily level of activity. If you want to burn more calories, you can also join a gym and workout. This will help build your muscles. More muscle mass means more calories get burnt even when you are not exercising.
* Spend less time in front of screens. People who watch a lot of television, play video games or spend an excessive amount of time on their phones, tablets, or computers are more likely to be overweight. Use this time more constructively and get an adequate amount of sleep as well.
* Don’t skip breakfast. A lot of people have a habit of skipping breakfast in the morning. This is detrimental to your health as breakfast gets your metabolism going and burns calories to give you the energy you need. People who skip breakfast are likely to feel hungrier later. They end up consuming a larger portion of calories than they originally would have if they had breakfast.
* Eat more fruits and vegetables. These contain fiber and will serve to be more fulfilling by decreasing your desire to overeat.
* Avoid sugary drinks such as juice drinks, energy drinks and sodas. They are empty calories that only add to your obesity. Go for water or low-fat milk instead.

In case you are planning to start a more vigorous exercise program, then do consult a doctor, especially if you bear health concerns like shortness of breath, dizziness, chest pain or pressure, an irregular heartbeat, blood clots, hernia, or joint swelling

Managing Healthy Weight Gain

Being underweight can be attributed to several causes. Besides serious illnesses that may result in weight loss, being underweight is also a result of medication that suppresses your appetite, excessive exercise, excessive stress, and enzyme deficiencies.

If you are underweight, then you should try to gain weight gradually until you reach a healthy weight. Some key takeaways in managing a healthy weight gain include:
* Eat healthy. If you’re trying to gain weight, then eat foods that are high in energy content. Start with a good breakfast. Consider having porridge made with full-fat milk and chopped fruits or raisins to give your day a healthy boost. Eggs on toast are also a good option. For snacks, milkshakes are an ideal choice. You can also add milk powder to them for extra protein.
* Include more fruits and vegetables in your diet. Like with weight loss, you should have at least 5 portions of fruits and vegetables every day.
* Increase your protein intake. Have beans, pulses, fish, eggs and meat.
* Drink plenty of water but avoid fluids just before meals in case you feel too full to eat later.
* Have more dairy products. If you’re a vegan or vegetarian, then dairy alternatives such as soya drinks and yogurts also work.
* Avoid foods that are full of saturated fat and sugar such as chocolate, cakes and sugary beverages. These may be high in calories but result in unhealthy weight gain by increasing body fat instead of lean body mass. They also increase the risk of developing high levels of cholesterol in your blood.
* You can also get more calories in your meals by topping them with cheese, nuts and seeds.
* Exercise. This strenuous activity will not only increase muscle mass and add weight to your body but will also increase your appetite and calorie intake.

If you are unable to gain weight, then it is advisable to consult a doctor for a medical checkup and ensure there is no serious underlying medical cause. The doctor may test you for Diabetes mellitus, HIV/AIDS, enzyme deficiencies, Tuberculosis, malignancies, an overactive thyroid gland, cystic fibrosis or any other physical condition that could be hampering weight gain.

How to figure out whether STO is the right choice for your project?

TOKYO, JAPAN, December 27, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Security token offering, Initial coin offering, and Initial public offering – which method of fundraising a company should choose? Since the beginning of the year the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) started taking action against crypto projects and even hedge funds. Token issuance rules are changing and in order to ensure that your company meets all the requirements you should carefully study the functions your digital asset will perform and the laws it should satisfy.

ICO, STO and the SEC

Let’s start with the difference between two fundraising mechanisms based on blockchain technology. STO is a procedure through which an investor receives a security token in exchange for payment. ICO has the same working principle, but purchasers get utility tokens instead.

STO combines ICO’s technological features and strictness of IPO registration process and has been invented as a response to new regulations, that seek to protect investors and consumers from cryptocurrencies frauds.

The main difference between STO and ICO is that tokenized securities are financial assets that can be backed by the company’s tangible actives, such as shares, revenue of the company, the right to receive dividends or even to vote. As a result, STO solves two major problems of crypto companies – stronger regulation and return of trust.

In comparison, ICO doesn’t give any rights or obligations. Due to the previous lack of regulation any company could have issued utility tokens without a prior registration. As a result, investors have lower barrier to entry but still have to take on increased risk.

However, after the SEC started investigating the real function of the tokens, things became a little bit more difficult. In case they find that investors purchased the token with the idea of selling it afterwards, the nature of this digital asset will be reclassified and the issuer will have to pay for violating Securities Law. Not so long ago, SEC has “slapped” Paragon and Airfox ICOs with $250,000 fine. EtherDelta founder also has been charged with $388,000 in penalties for operating “Unregistered Securities Exchange”.

Is your token a utility or security?

Companies should understand the nature of their token beforehand not to repeat others’ errors.
The SEC defines a security as “any transaction or scheme whereby a person invests his money in a common enterprise and is led to expect profits solely from the efforts of the promoter or a third party.” Only accredited or professional investors can buy this type of tokens.

Utility tokens, in turn, are simply app coins. It means that they enable future access to the products or services offered on the platform of a company. Thus, utility token shouldn’t be used for investment purposes.
In order to issue security tokens, a business must complete a registration process similar to an IPO. But in case of STOs the fees are far less than those companies are paying to the investment banks and brokers.

STO: regulations, limitations, specific rules

The main feature of an STO in relation to any other fundraising instrument is that it has less middleman and more automation, which, in turn, corresponds to lower taxes, legal and accounting fees. But before issuing security tokens, a company must register with the SEC, unless they qualify for an exemption.

Below you can find some of restrictions and requirements that both sellers and buyers must meet. First, security tokens cannot be freely traded. According to the SEC, a security owner willing to sell a security restricted to the public has to meet five conditions:

Holding period: typically between 6–12 months
Current public information: Information regarding the nature of its business, the identity of its officers and directors, and its financial statement publicly available
Trading volume formula: <1% of the outstanding shares
Ordinary brokerage transactions
Filing a notice of proposed sale with the SEC
Because security tokens are subject to federal security regulations, issuers in the U.S. can qualify for three distinct exemptions: Reg D, Reg A+ and Reg CF.

In conclusion

Constant investigations conducted by the SEC actually play into the hands of the STO dissemination. In accordance with a level of transition from IPO and ICO mechanisms to STO, it is expected that the market cap of the last fundraising channel will reach $10 trillion in 2020.

Overall, it’s a quite challenging task to issue security tokens. STO requires a lot of time and money, unless the company is backed up by professionals who know the mechanism like the back of their hand.
