Scientology Prayer for Total Freedom Shared in Online Interreligious Prayer Meeting in Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, October 21, 2020 / — With more than a million COVID-19-related deaths reported internationally and a second wave of new cases surging throughout Europe, several Scientology ministers took part in an interfaith prayer for peace and the end to the pandemic.

Organized by the Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), the Scientologists joined Hindus, Muslims, Christian denominations and Buddhists in the nearly three-hour program. Participants shared prayers and answered questions posed by those attending online from around the world.

Rev. Olivia McDuff, public affairs staff at the Church of Scientology International, delivered the Scientology Prayer for Total Freedom.

In the question and answer period, Rev. McDuff described the Church's Stay Well campaign which began in March.

Scientology is an applied religious philosophy, and as Scientology ecclesiastical leader Mr. David Miscavige said when he launched the Scientology TV Network, “Scientology is not just something you believe in, it’s something you do.” The Church’s response to the pandemic is a classic example of how it puts the principles of the religion into practice.

Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard emphasized the importance of preparedness when he rephrased the well-known maxim, saying “an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure.” And the Church took this message to heart.

When the global pandemic was declared, the most effective measures were researched for ensuring the safety of Scientology staff and parishioners, and these were implemented internationally as protocols under the direction of Mr. Miscavige.

Educational materials were created to help people understand not only what to do to protect themselves and their families from the virus, but why. These included illustrated booklets and videos that explain what a virus is, how viruses and germs spread, and why disinfection, social distancing and personal protective equipment like masks and gloves protect people from becoming ill. They also cover how to prevent the spread of disease with isolation. These are available in 21 languages on the Stay Well Prevention Resource Center on the Scientology website, where the booklets may be downloaded free of charge.

Beginning in May, Scientology Churches and Missions across the globe distributed 5 million copies of the booklets in their communities.

Representing the Church of Scientology San Jose, Joey Percival, spoke of the Church’s interfaith work to promote freedom of religion or belief, particularly in countries where this right is denied. He also described the Peace Rides through South Central L.A. and other inner-city neighborhoods to broker peace among warring gangs and combat violent crime. Riders and drivers line up on their motorbikes, souped-up cars and 4-wheelers and drive through the streets in the name of peace. They hand out copies of The Way to Happiness, the common-sense moral code written by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard for use by people of all faiths or none.

Rev. Michael Scandling, also from San Jose, spoke of the Church’s work to combat religious discrimination through STAND, Scientologists Taking Action Against Discrimination.

From its beginnings, the Church of Scientology has recognized that freedom of religion is a fundamental human right. In a world where conflicts are often traceable to intolerance of others’ religious beliefs and practices, the Church has, for more than 50 years, made the preservation of religious liberty an overriding concern.

Marine Science Professor Dr. David Hastings Presents Insight Into Dangers of Rising Sea Levels

Florida-based Dr. David Hastings, a marine science professor, demonstrates the potential for rising sea levels to wreak havoc on local communities.

GAINESVILLE, FL, UNITED STATES, October 21, 2020 / — With sea levels in Florida rising faster than ever, the issue has never been more important, with millions of Floridians now at risk of flooding from the ocean. That is according to Dr. David Hastings, a Florida-based marine science expert, as he presents a professional look at the imminent impact upon the state's coastal communities.

"Here in Florida, sea levels are rising faster than ever," explains marine science professor Dr. David Hastings, "and are rising by as much as 8.5 millimeters per year."

Equivalent to about one inch every three years, more worryingly still, Dr. David Hastings reports, the numbers for sea-level rise are increasing. "In the past three decades, sea levels around Miami have risen by approximately six inches," reveals Dr. Hastings, speaking from his home in the city of Gainesville, Florida. "Now, though," he goes on, "we're expecting to see a further rise of six inches in less than half of that time – by 2035."

This, marine science professor Dr. David Hastings says, would have substantial impacts and could be disastrous. "It's not just the city of Miami, either," points out Dr. Hastings, "because sea levels across coastal Florida are increasing at similar rates."

According to Dr. David Hastings, the six-inch rise in sea levels over the past 30 years has been devastating, but to witness the same again in less than half of the time would be catastrophic. "Fast-forward to the end of the century, and at this rate, the entire lower third of the state of Florida will be underwater," explains the marine science professor.

While the state's coastal communities are at the most obvious and immediate risk, it's a pending disaster which, marine science professor Dr. David Hastings says, will very quickly begin to affect individuals across the state if not tackled immediately and directly.

Large areas of Florida, in fact, could be completely submerged within a lifetime. A sobering thought not just for marine science professors such as Dr. David Hastings, but for the population of Florida as a whole.

"It's crucial that we act now to address climate change and other root causes of rising sea levels," says Dr. David Hastings, "by working with politicians, scientists, environmental groups, and others to tackle the issue head-on, sooner rather than later."

Marine science professor Dr. David Hastings arrived in Florida in 2000 to teach at St. Petersburg's prestigious liberal arts institution, Eckerd College. Now retired from education, the marine science expert is concentrated on conservation efforts focused on protecting the planet and its oceans for future generations. Dr. David Hastings currently resides in Gainesville, Florida. Outside of his marine science work and conservation efforts, Dr. Hastings enjoys reading, film, and music, and spending time with his friends and family.

Wayne Shulick's Tips for Successfully Shifting Company Culture

Wayne Shulick's Tips for Successfully Shifting Company Culture

PHILADELPHIA, PA, USA, October 21, 2020 / — Wayne Shulick has invaluable advice for any manager or business operator who wants to dramatically shift their workplace culture. It’s often cited as a great way to improve employee satisfaction, but how do you really go about it? How do you convince a veteran staff that their new purpose in work is different from what drove them for the years leading up to this point? The secret is to craft a holistic approach to a culture shift and implement it in ways that are inclusive, accessible, motivating and manageable.

Wayne Shulick Says to Involve Everyone

A culture shift does not happen top-down. Instead, it happens bottom-up, much like grassroots movements. It happens when the core group of workers believes in the shift. In order to get that belief and dedication, Wayne Shulick has discovered that it requires involvement from the people who will be making the changes. Management has to include everyone in the conversation and see what the company itself values. Management and staff should bounce ideas off of each other and address pushback. Change needs to start in the very place where it will be driven.

Building on Wins Like Wayne Shulick

The Wayne Shulick method focuses on small wins. It derives from the same philosophy that builds good habits. You don’t run a marathon your first day. Instead, any amount of running is a victory. Over time, you expect more of yourself, and your wins scale up until you can tackle the bid distance.

Wayne Shulick remarks on how this holds true for companies. The culture will not shift overnight. Instead, it will be a journey of a thousand small steps. When the small wins are established, concise and clearly communicated to everyone, the company can celebrate each achievement (granted, this does not require a cake and office parties at every turn). Build on wins, and people will more readily and easily embrace the culture shift.

Wayne Shulick Discusses Culture and Hiring

The easiest and most reliable way to make a permanent culture shift, according to Wayne Shulick, is through hiring. This is not to suggest that one should fire their entire staff and start over. Instead, acknowledge the inevitability of turnover and build the culture shift into the hiring process. This generates momentum, and screening new hires makes sure that they are on board with the cultural direction.

Wayne Shulick Emphasizes Patience

Often, the most challenging aspect of shifting culture is curtailing the desire to see rapid change. The culture cannot and will not shift quickly. Small wins will feel good, but there will be backward steps too. Bake patience into the plan. Expect resistance and a nonlinear journey. It will help the company stay the course and see the desired change. Emphasize patience, and Wayne Shulick guarantees that your culture can transform.

Rising star Will McNally on how painting became his passion

Catch Me If You Can

Will McNally is fast becoming one of the biggest names in contemporary art – and his rise to stardom all began after he did a painting for his auntie.

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, October 21, 2020 / — Will McNally is fast becoming one of the biggest names in contemporary art – and his rise to stardom all began after he did a painting for his auntie.

The artist may have caught the attention of Hollywood film studios, professional footballers and music superstars, but none of that would have been possible if he didn’t do a charity painting that made him realise art wasn’t just his passion, but his calling in life.

Will explained: “When I was 15, I used to go to my auntie’s house, and one time she was doing a charity event and looking for ways to make money. I told her I could paint something, which surprised her – at the time I’d never tell people I liked to paint, as I was worried people would think I was a geek, or nerdy, but at home I was getting stuck into it and it became a real passion.

“So we went and bought two canvases and some paint, and then I started painting the East End gangsters the Krays. My auntie couldn’t believe I could paint something like that, so we went to the charity with it, and it sold for a few hundred quid. At the time, as a young lad, I was thinking that was a lot of money, and that was the drive when I was that age, thinking about the amount of sweets I could buy with that.

“But I still kept my painting quiet after that, as I was a kid and worried that painting would attract certain attention, with people calling me a nerd or a geek. It’s only in recent years where I’ve realised life is too short, and that I shouldn’t shy away from something I love.”

This all happened in a fateful moment, which convinced him he was taking the right path.

“I was in my overdraft when I was thinking about focusing on painting, and was looking for a sign to convince me this was the right idea – and I’ll never forget, an hour later, receiving a message on Instagram asking me if they could buy a painting. I knew from that moment this was my calling, and I donate to charity from every piece I sell; I know I can make a living from it, but I can also use it to help give back.”

Will is currently working on a series of gangster inspired pieces, which will offer a unique look at real life mobsters and famous big screen anti heroes.

“It’s now mad that, seven years on, I’m working on a gangster series, after doing the piece on the Krays for a charity event. It’s gone full circle, I truly believe this is my calling.”

Prior to Purplepass, district officials wanted to use online ticketing for their sports fans and events at the new Sheldon ISD Panther Stadium. As schools around the world closed and were being affected by the pandemic, Sheldon ISD switched to an online, contactless ticketing platform for their patrons and fans.

By going contactless, this encourages that all sales be made online, minimizing the number of exchanges at the event gate. Now, fans can bring their print-at-home or mobile tickets and get scanned into the event; avoiding any exchange of cash, receipts, and paper tickets.

With online ticketing, the district can now create different ticket types depending on the event; general, student, visitor tickets and assigned seating.

Sheldon ISD has partnered with the event management platform, Purplepass, because it also allows them to heel their social distancing policies. With assigned seating maps and general ticketing, each school can control their event capacity, how many tickets are sold and what seats are available when using assigned seating.

On their Purplepass event page, they can include any additional information about the new health protocols being put in place, links to more resources and an “Items not allowed” list. This ensures guests are aware of any changes and procedures ahead of time and can attend any event prepared and aware of the new standards.

For their schools working with sponsors, they are using the print-at-home ticket option as a place to put their ads and logos. Every event promoter can custom build their print-at-home tickets. Add media, logos, event descriptions, directions to the venue and more. Guests can print their tickets out at home or keep them on their mobile devices to be scanned at the gate. Either option allows staff to follow social distancing regulations and scan from far away with no unnecessary exchanges.
