2026-27 Teacher Vacancy Survey Opens Monday, October 5

Public, Nonpublic, ESU

Action needed: Teacher Vacancy Survey (TVS) 2026-27
Opens Monday, Oct. 5 | Closes Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026 | NDE Legacy Portal

Why it matters: Your responses determine Nebraska’s official teacher shortage areas. Teachers in those areas may be eligible for state and federal loan forgiveness. Results are reported in aggregate, and no district is identified.

What to report:

  • The FTE of positions your district needed to fill for 2026-27, entered by content area. Complete one record per content area.
  • Include positions that require a teaching certificate.
  • For positions not filled with fully qualified personnel, choose the response that best describes how the position was filled. If none apply, choose “Other” and explain.
    • Fully qualified means an Initial, Standard, or Professional Nebraska teaching certificate with the appropriate endorsement for the assignment. A Provisional endorsement or a Nebraska Permit (Alternative Program, Postsecondary, Provisional, Career Education, Substitute, or Transitional) does not count.

How to submit:

  1. NDE Legacy Portal → Data Collections → Teacher Vacancy Survey 2026-2027
    1. A new activation code is required every year.
  2. Nothing to report? Check “None To Report” on page 1 and click Continue.
  3. Otherwise, click “Add Content Area” and complete a record for each one.
  4. On the final screen, click “Submit Survey.”
