History Publishing Company to Publish "Moments That Made America"

The Nation That Was Meant To Be

Geoff Armstrong, Historian,Educator, Researcher

Two volume set shows how America defied the odds to become the nation it became

It is a perfect fit for classroom curriculum and would do well on the bookshelves of school libraries everywhere. It should also be required reading for all public servants.”

— Donagh Bracken

PALISADES, NEW YORK, US, October 2, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — History Publishing Company will publish the two volume set by Canadian author Geoff Armstrong about the United States and how it came to be. Volume One "From the Ice Age to the Alamo" will be published Oct. 15, 2018.

What were the moments that made America? Author Geoff Armstrong poses the question in the first volume of this far ranging set. Some were incidents that shaped the entire planet,” he writes. “One such ‘moment’ was the breakup of the super continent Pangaea that sent North America and later, South America drifting away from the giant land mass that would become Europe and Asia so that America could develop its own environment and eventually its own culture.

Unlike that continent- shaping moment two hundred million years ago, some of the events that affected America profoundly were not recognized as important when they occurred and only became obvious through the hindsight of history. And those events ranged from the insignificant moments when a Mongol leader in a faraway place got drunk; and a Germanic leader’s death in an ancient battle to a Revolutionary War battle in upstate New York when a man who would become ignominious as a traitor to the revolutionary cause, saved the day for the people he would later betray to the rise of Napoleon in Europe. In all, Geoff Armstrong points to eighty- seven incidents, small and great; had not any one of them occur, America would not have become the United States.

Geoff Armstrong brings that hindsight into clear focus and in an informative and easy reading manner and demonstrates that America’s development defied the odds to such a degree that were Las Vegas present at the very beginning, it could not imagine a number big enough to bet on America’s development to its present state of being.

"English born Geoff Armstrong’s two volume set makes a great argument, without being argumentative, that America was meant to be the great nation it became,” says Publisher Donagh Bracken.” It is a perfect fit in classroom curriculum and would do well on the bookshelves of school libraries everywhere. It should be required reading for all public servants”.

Geoff Armstrong was born in England during World War II. His father, a Canadian soldier in the Artillery was wounded by German forces in North Africa and was sent with his wife and Geoff by convoy, back to Canada. Geoff, a resident of Quebec, attended McGill University and Concordia University and had a twenty five year teaching career on the grade and high school levels. He is a business writer for a number of publicly traded companies. He now specializes in the development of SEC regulatory documents for public companies, websites and other promotional texts. He lives in Argyle, New York. Volume Two,"Moments That Made America – Civil War to Super Power" will be published in Spring, 2019.

Artmattan Films Acquires Award-Winning Documentary Kinshasa Makambo

Kinshasa Makambo

Kinshasa Makambo

Critically acclaimed DRC documentary, Kinshasa Makambo, has recently been acquired by ArtMattan Films

It's obvious the director feels for his subjects and his country's sorry fate…but he has opted to stay in the background and allow his interviewees and his images to tell their (and his) stories.”

— The Hollywood Reporter

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES , October 2, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — In January 2015, the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Joseph Kabila, sought a constitutional amendment that would allow him to be elected president for a third time.

This film documents the resulting demonstrations and follows three protagonists of the resistance. Ben, who lives in exile in New York, takes the advice of his fellow countrymen in exile and decides to join the struggle in the Congo. Jean Marie, who has just been released from prison, continues his public campaign for his country's freedom and is persecuted by the secret service. Christian fights unperturbed in the streets of Kinshasa, even after former Prime Minister Etienne Tshisekedi, on whom the opposition had pinned their hopes, dies and the movement against Kabila's extension of his time in office seems paralysed.

Should one resist in exile, or fight on the ground in the Congo? Should resistance be non-violent or should force be used if required? Filmed throughout with a handheld camera that stays very close to the protagonists, even in precarious conditions, Dieudo Hamadi explores the pros and cons of different forms of resistance.

As of September 2018, general elections are scheduled to be held in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on 23 December 2018, to determine a successor to incumbent President Joseph Kabila.

"Hamadi's camerawork is vibrant and thoughtful, and Hélène Ballis' editing is crisp. It's obvious the director feels for his subjects and his country's sorry fate — he got to know his protagonists through Ben, whom he met at a political-cultural event in 2013 — but he has opted to stay in the background and allow his interviewees and his images to tell their (and his) stories. The result is an explosion of ideas and action — a vivid articulation of the throbbing headache threatening to blow the Congo apart."
– The Hollywood Reporter

"Kinshasa Makambo offers conflicts aplenty, both in the shape of physical clashes between the oppressive state apparatus and unarmed civilians, and the ideological struggles within the anti-establishment camp. The film succeeds on both scores. Alongside gripping depictions of political mobilizations and police clampdowns, the 33-year-old filmmaker contemplates the inevitable clashes between idealism and pragmatism for people trying to achieve their goals under severe constraints."
– The Hollywood Reporter

Jennifer Vatza of Restorative Aromatics to be Featured on CUTV News Radio

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, UNITED STATES, October 2, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — When we’re in a state of stress, our anxiety prevents us from the seeing the simple solutions in front of us.

Aromatherapy is the art of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance to promote the health of body, mind and spirit. Whether you’re experiencing stress and anxiety, sleep issues, acute and chronic pain, aromatherapy can help to ground and center you and allow yourself to heal.

Jennifer Vatza is a certified aromatherapist and the founder of Restorative Aromatics, where she offers a holistic approach to self-care enhanced by aromatherapy.

“I started exploring essential oils several years ago for my own health and wellness. I needed relief from stress and anxiety,” recalls Jennifer. “Aromatherapy utilizes essential oils. The aroma can evoke a memory or a feeling to calm an emotional state or give you energy. Smoking can be a form of aromatherapy. It’s just horrible for you. If we’re going to have habits, let’s make what we put in our body good things.”

Jennifer also educates clients on supporting and enhancing their health and wellness through aromatherapy through in-person workshops and online social media engagement. She is also working on a webinar series and several eBooks on aromatherapy topics.

Jennifer offers a stress management coaching program known as Aromatic Grounding: Stress Mapping and Redesign, which uses essential oils to help train her clients to rewrite their stress responses and redesign how they respond to stress in the future. Every client has receives a “stress kit” containing aromatic products designed to reduce their stress levels.

There are three different modes of applications: direct inhalation, dermal application, like creams or salves, and internal application.

“I’m really proud of being able to help people through aromatherapy because it’s a daunting field, with so much misinformation,” says Jennifer. “I’m grateful that people are looking at things like aromatherapy.”

CUTV News Radio will feature Jennifer Vatza in an interview with Jim Masters on October 4th at 1pm EDT.

Building on Success in Minnesota, Math Corps Continues National Expansion

AmeriCorps program expanded to Georgia.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, USA, October 1, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — ST. PAUL, MN (October 1, 2018) — Building on success in Minnesota, Math Corps —an AmeriCorps program that works to help students who are struggling in math, continues national expansion with a new program launch in Georgia.

Using a proven model for student success, Math Corps trains and places tutors to use research-based instruction to help students in grades 4-8 gain foundational math skills. Achievement in early math is a great predictor of future academic and economic success. In fact, 90 percent of sixth graders who fail math will not graduate from high school. Since 2008, more than 20,000 students have been served in Minnesota.

Launched in partnership with Commodore Conyers College & Career Academy (4C Academy), Georgia Math Corps began serving students in Albany, GA in September. In its first year, the program will have tutors at eight schools and will serve 700 students.

Expansion to Georgia isn’t the only exciting news for Math Corps. The results from a year-long randomized controlled trial funded by the Laura and John Arnold Foundation concluded that Math Corps has a meaningful impact for students in every grade served (4-8). The study confirmed that Math Corps students are making greater gains than their peers who don’t receive math intervention. In fact, Math Corps students get on track faster—an average of 2-3 months ahead of their expected trajectory. The program is currently offered in three states: Minnesota, Michigan and Georgia.

With the school year underway, Math Corps is recruiting tutors to serve in Minnesota. Tutors should apply now to begin in January. Both fulltime and part-time opportunities are available, and the need is greatest in the Twin Cities and Saint Cloud. To learn more, please visit: www.readingandmath.net or call 1-866-859-2825.

###
About Minnesota Math Corps:
State exam results show 40 percent of Minnesota eighth graders do not demonstrate grade-level proficiency in math. Minnesota Math Corps provides a solution to help students become successful 21st century learners and to narrow achievement gaps. The program places trained AmeriCorps tutors in Minnesota schools to deliver research-based math strategies that help students in grades four through eight build the skills needed to succeed in math. The program is being replicated nationally. For more information, please visit www.minnesotamathcorps.org.
About Minnesota Reading Corps:
One in three Minnesota third graders is not reading at grade level. Minnesota Reading Corps, a statewide program, provides a solution. The program places trained AmeriCorps tutors in schools and preschools, where they deliver proven literacy strategies to help children get ready for Kindergarten and on track to become successful readers by the end of third grade. A rigorous study conducted by the University of Chicago finds Reading Corps to be one of the most effective literacy programs nationwide. It is replicated in 12 states and the District of Columbia. Big Brothers Big Sisters of America Unveils New Brand

The 114-year-old mentoring organization's new brand emphasizes the potential of all children

Our new messaging, our new look, our new energy, will fuel our movement so we can serve more children across the country.”

— Pam Iorio, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America

TAMPA, FL, UNITED STATES, October 1, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, the country’s largest and oldest youth mentoring organization, today unveils a new, modern look and brand repositioning with the goals of emphasizing the urgency of the Big Brothers Big Sisters mission and recruiting more diverse volunteers nationwide.

“Over the past two years, we listened to our local affiliate leaders, who do the essential work of matching youth with mentors, and it became clear that we needed a modernization of our brand to attract volunteers of all generations,” said Big Brothers Big Sisters of America President and CEO Pam Iorio. “The need in our communities for young people to have a role model is more urgent than ever, and we must evolve as an organization to meet that need.”

The brand transformation, including a new logo, new colors, and new messaging, is part of a multi-part strategy by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America to build the foundation that will enable the organization to recruit more volunteers to become mentors (“Bigs”) to youth (“Littles”) in their communities. The organization is upgrading its nationwide technology for tracking programs and mentoring relationships (“matches”), investing in training for
staff, leaders, parents, and volunteers, in addition to undergoing this brand transformation.

Months of research by Barkley, the firm managing the brand transformation, including focus groups with potential Bigs, as well as current Bigs, Littles, donors, staff, and leadership, showed that the legacy brand was not effectively connecting with younger, prospective mentors or conveying the urgent mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters. The organization is intentionally pivoting from messages of the importance of mentoring, to messages of the urgent need for every child to have their potential defended and ignited. The mission will remain the same, as will the core model of building bridges in communities by connecting one adult with one child and supporting that match at every stage, but the organization will focus on a child’s potential, and our role as adults in helping children achieve their best possible futures.

“Families across the country are asking for help with complex challenges their children are facing in today’s world,” Iorio said. “Our new messaging, our new look, our new energy, will fuel our movement so we can serve more children across the country.”

The new logo, designed by Barkley with input from the Big Brothers Big Sisters affiliate network, key stakeholders, and Littles, is a symbol of the powerful relationships between Bigs and Littles. The little “b,” which symbolizes the Little, is the at the center of the mark, and the green lines that complete the capital “B” symbolize the Big, who empowers the Little’s potential.

Learn more about the new brand positioning, the look, and how to get involved at BigBrothersBigSisters.org. Share the new look and follow updates on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube using #BBBS.
