China Reports Gains in Child Health, Preschool Education

(MENAFN) China’s child health outcomes showed further improvement in 2024, accompanied by steady advances in preschool education, according to a statistical monitoring report issued Tuesday by the National Bureau of Statistics.

The report highlighted notable declines in mortality rates: neonatal mortality dropped to 2.5 per thousand, infant mortality to 4.0 per thousand, and under-five mortality to 5.6 per thousand.

These figures represent decreases of 0.3, 0.5, and 0.6 per thousand points, respectively, compared with 2023.

By the close of 2024, the country had established 3,073 maternal and child health facilities and 162 hospitals dedicated to children.

Food safety standards also remained high, with infant formula milk powder passing inspections at a rate of 99.88 percent.

Preschool education enrollment continued to expand, reaching 92.0 percent in 2024 — an increase of 0.9 percentage points from the previous year.

Additionally, authorities removed more than 5.485 million pieces of harmful and illegal online content that posed risks to children, underscoring efforts to safeguard their well-being.
