Rogers, MI Department of State Host Voting Rights Town Hall to Promote Civic Education, Public Confidence
KALAMAZOO, Mich., Aug. 7, 2026 — State Rep. Julie M. Rogers (D-Kalamazoo) yesterday joined the Michigan Department of State and community experts to host a Voting Rights Town Hall in Kalamazoo, providing residents with accurate information about Michigan’s election system and voting rights.
“A healthy democracy depends on an informed public,” Rogers said. “We live in an age of both misinformation and disinformation. While information is everywhere on the internet, finding what is accurate and trustworthy can be challenging. That’s why conversations like these are so important. By connecting directly with residents, answering questions and sharing reliable facts, we fortify public confidence in our elections and empower people to fully participate in our democracy.”
The informational event gave attendees an opportunity to ask questions, learn how Michigan’s elections are administered and discuss the importance of an informed public in maintaining trust and confidence in our democracy.
“Listening is just as important as sharing information. Meaningful conversations with community members help us better serve the public while reinforcing confidence in the systems we all rely on,” Rogers concluded.
According to the Department of State, Michigan’s elections system is among the strongest and most secure in the nation. It includes multiple layers of security, including bipartisan oversight, post-election audits, secure ballot tracking and testing of voting equipment before every election. These safeguards help ensure elections are accurate, secure and transparent while reinforcing public confidence in the electoral process.
People are encouraged to use the Department’s Election Fact Center to verify information and guard against misinformation and disinformation.
